Dove soffiano i venti ...

"Sono una di quella persone che ritiene un atto politico anche il camminare per strada" - così in un intervista, David Rodriguez - "Esco, vado laffuori, e mi coinvolgo. Ed è questo ciò che tiro fuori e scrivo nelle mie canzoni."

Il Fucile e la Canzone (per Victor Jara)
di David Rodriguez

E allora mi volto indietro
All'incrocio dei quattro venti
A tutti i libri che ho letto
E a tutte le cose che so
Ma il mistero rimane

I miei amici mi chiedono
Se mi sono scordato del tuo spirito
"Come puoi cantare a proposito della fame
sulle note del rock'n'roll?"
Ma il mistero rimane

Il ballerino e la danza
Il tramonto e l'alba
Non riesco a cogliere la differenza
Fra i fucili e le canzoni

Si santifica Marx e la rivoluzione
E la classifica dei dischi in America
E soluzioni drastiche
Ma il mistero rimane

Mentre stanno morendo di fame in Africa
in Indocina, in SudAmerica, in Appalachia *
Il mistero rimane

Il ballerino e la danza
Ah, il tramonto e l'alba
Non riesco a cogliere la differenza
Fra i fucili e le canzoni

E allora mi volto indietro
All'incrocio dei quattro venti
A tutti i libri che ho letto
E a tutte le cose che so
Ma il mistero rimane

* Nota del Blog: Appalachia è il nome con cui Edgar Allan Poe avrebbe voluto che venissero chiamati gli Stati Uniti d'America.

The Rifle and the Song
(To Victor Jara)
di David Rodriguez

And so I turn my head
To where the four winds blow
To all the books I've read
And all the things I know
But the mystery lives on

All my friends they ask
Have you forgotten your soul
How can you sing about hunger
In a rock'n'roll song?
But the mystery lives on

The dancer or the dance
The sunset or the dawn
I can't discern the difference
Between the rifle and the song

They sanctify Karl Marx and revolution
and the American record charts
And austere solutions
But the mystery lives on

While they're starving in Africa
In Indochina, in South America, in Appalachia
But the mystery lives on

The dancer or the dance
Ah, the sunset or the dawn
I can't discern the difference
Between the rifle and the song

And so I turn my head
To where the four winds blow
To all the books I've read
And all the things I know
But the mystery lives on.
